Product details:

RF Shield® SCIF Barrier is a USA-made product designed for use in SCIFs (Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities). This FI-FOIL® product has a strong woven polyethylene core that is resistant to tears and is bonded between two extremely reflective aluminum surfaces. In addition, the RF shielding layer is composed of two (2) outer layers of 99% pure aluminum foil, with an inner layer of fiberglass reinforcement and Kraft paper, all of which are manufactured in the USA. This RF shielding provides exceptional sound attenuation and has been tested and verified by an NSA-approved TEMPEST facility to meet or exceed requirements for shielding effectiveness at 378 frequencies. With an average RF attenuation of 73 dB, RF Shield™ offers superior frequency shielding performance.

SCIF tape options:

Utilizing SCIF tape is highly recommended for most SCIF room projects. SCIF tape effectively seals seams and preserves the integrity of your installation. In most cases, you will want to use our 3" Aluminum SCIF TapeSince every seam of the product needs taping, we recommend two rolls of tape for each 500 sq. ft. roll of RF Shield® SCIF barrier ordered.

Some specifications call for 3M Conductive Adhesive SCIF Tape which is occasionally specified on some jobs for its unique conductive properties. Always refer to your spec sheet or consult with the project's architect to determine which type of material and tape is best for your project.

Materials:

99% pure aluminum foil, with an inner layer of fiberglass reinforcement and Kraft paper, all of which are manufactured in the USA

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between SCIF Barrier and Radiant Barrier?

A radiant barrier is designed to reflect radiant heat—typically using foil—to improve energy efficiency in buildings by reducing heat gain or loss. In contrast, a SCIF (Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility) barrier is engineered to block electromagnetic signals (like radio frequencies) to protect classified or sensitive information. While both reflect radiant heat, SCIF barriers' main purpose is to prevent electronic eavesdropping or signal leakage in military, corporate, and government applications.

Does RF Shield™ meet US requirements for SCIF facilities?

Yes. The RF shielding material enhances sound attenuation while meeting or exceeding the minimum shielding effectiveness requirements at 378 frequencies, as verified by testing at an accredited NSA-approved TEMPEST facility. Comprehensive test results are available for download near the product description on this page.

How much overlap is needed when joining two or more sheets of SCIF Barrier?

The manufacturer's recommendation is a 3” overlap, but plans may vary. Always refer to your spec sheet or ask the architect for confirmation prior to installing.

What type of spray adhesive do you recommend?

We recommend Spray-Lock Multi-Purpose Spray Adhesive for its various benefits, including:

  • Virtually no VOC's (0.02% VOC content)
  • ~8 hour working time, allowing adequate time to install SCIF Barrier after spraying
  • Faster, easier installs
  • Cans are 100% recyclable after use

Which SCIF Tape should I use to seal the seams?

Standard SCIF Tape is used on a majority of our orders including government and military projects.

Conductive Adhesive SCIF Tape is used when the drawings / plans specifically require this. Both types have been used in ICD-705 compliant projects. Always refer to your architect's spec sheet to determine which tape to use in your project.
