EcoFoil Partners with Tiny House Builders
Have you ever imagined living in 300 square feet of space (or even less) full time? Not just a weekend in a hotel room or guest house, but life in a tiny residential house? It may sound like a tiny house would be confining, but for our project partners at Tiny r(E)volution, it’s quite the opposite. Try looking at it this way:
“Imagine going into your kitchen and washing your hands in the sink. You hear the tea kettle whistling so you turn around (don't move your feet), stretch your right arm about 8" further than natural and turn the stove knob off. You realize you want milk in your tea so swivel a bit more and take 4 steps. There you are in front of the fridge. All of this while still being able to see your baby just 7 feet away from you in her pack 'n play. Maybe you are narcoleptic. No worries. You only have to fall 3 feet 9 inches and you will land on your bed. That is our life indoors. BUT....imagine if you walk out your front door you are greet by a covered porch that has a beautiful view of 4 acres which you own the title to. You can hear the sound of your 30 chickens laying eggs for your next breakfast or for you to sell at the farmers market. The air carries a faint smell of the 2 hogs you are raising just an acre away. Hogs that will soon provide you with 240 pounds of meat for the fall/winter. Beyond that is wooded area where you imagine your daughter one day playing Swiss Family Robinson or ‘camping out’ in her free time. That is our life. Small in some ways. Extra large in others!"
The concept of tiny house living suddenly gets more appealing when you view it in those terms, but add in that you could be mortgage free in either no time or a very short time and it sounds even sweeter – Andrew & Crystal Odom, our Tiny r(E)volution partners, have a goal to build their 300 square foot home for $10,000 or less. We chose to be a part of their project and their journey by sponsoring them with EcoFoil products. We sent them:
150 feet of 3" white insulation tape to be used to to tape off the seams in the bubble foil 'quilt' around their floor joists.
500 square feet of perforated radiant barrier to be used in their attic to reflect heat back out of the house since it will be based in the sunny South.
Here's the tiny house floor plan that they will be working from:
And they're thinking ahead as they start a family to how they can make a little more room for their growing daughter when the time is right - here's their vision of an expanded home:
