What Is Radiant Heat Barrier?
EcoFoil® perforated radiant barrier uses reflective technology to increase the energy efficiency and comfort level of your home. Radiant barrier is made of a thin layer, 5 mil, of woven polyethylene that is sandwiched between two layers of a highly reflective metalized coating. With this polyethylene core the product can't be torn or ripped. It blocks up to 96% of radiant heat transfer which helps to keep your home cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. Our perforated radiant barrier has pin holes punched every 1/4" throughout the roll. This is the only product to be used in an attic as it allows moisture, at a molecular level, to pass through it. Summer application, warm climate, we would install on the bottom of the rafters or trusses with staples. Winter application, cold climate, we would install over the insulation on the attic floor, lay on top. For dual climates and maximum efficiency we would recommend both applications.
Where Is Radiant Heat Barrier Used?
In the Attic - perforated radiant barrier works by reflecting heat away from the attic during long, hot summer days and reflecting heat back into your living space during those cold winter nights.
It is NOT RECOMMENDED to use any type of tape on the radiant barrier in your attic. The tape will block the perforations and allow condensation to form in these places!
