What Is Radiant Heat Barrier?
EcoFoil® solid radiant barrier uses reflective technology to increase the energy efficiency and comfort level of your home. Radiant barrier is made of a thin layer, 5 mil, of woven polyethylene that is sandwiched between two layers of a highly reflective metalized coating. With the polyethylene core the product can't be torn or ripped. It blocks up to 96% of radiant heat transfer which helps to keep your home cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. It also acts as a vapor barrier, when the seams are taped, keeping moisture from passing through it. EcoFoil solid radiant barrier can be installed in many areas of your home, crawlspaces, under subfloor and under wall/roof sheathing.
Where Is Foil Radiant Barrier Used?
Solid radiant barrier can be used in walls, roofs, floors and crawl spaces that require a vapor barrier. We run the product perpendicular to your framing and staple into place. For new construction this product would be installed under your sheathing to keep radiant heat out during the summer months and radiant heat in during the winter months. For existing homes this product works great for crawl spaces, staple to the bottom of your joists to keep the heat in your living space and preventing condensation, possibility of mold, from forming on the joists or subfloor. We also use this inside the home on the bottom of subfloor or joists, keeping heat contained either up or down. Just like zone heating with your HVAC system. You must use tape to seam the material, this way the product acts as one sheet and maintains the moisture barrier.
Radiant barrier is very light weight yet highly durable so installation is a breeze. All you need is a sharp utility knife or scissors, tape measure and a staple gun, browse the installation files to match your application.
