What is R-8 HVAC Duct Wrap Insulation?
EcoFoil® R-8 HVAC duct wrap insulation is specifically designed to reduce radiant heat gain/loss in residential and commercial duct applications. The insulation also helps control condensation by providing an airtight thermal break around the ducting. You must tape all seams so the insulation acts as a vapor barrier. R-8 duct wrap insulation is constructed of a triple layer of polyethylene single bubble insulation, with each layer of single bubble insulation bonded to two radiant barrier metalized sheets. The insulation is 9/16" - 5/8" thick with a large single bubble insulation in the center, sandwiched by two thin layers of single bubble insulation. Each roll of insulation includes two rolls of spacer strips. To achieve the R-8 value you must use the spacer strips, placed every 2' on the ducting. This provides an additional air chamber for the insulation. When combined with the spacer strip your finished thickness is 11/16" - 3/4" thick.
Where is R-8 HVAC Duct Wrap Insulation Used?
EcoFoil® R-8 HVAC duct wrap insulation is meant to be used around any duct work in your home or building. This includes round, rectangular or square ducting.
You must tape the seams of the insulation, this way it acts as one sheet and maintains the moisture barrier.
EcoFoil® R-8 HVAC duct wrap insulation comes in a 4' wide x 50' long roll. For all applications you must use the spacer strips provided in order to create an additional air chamber that gives the product its R-8 code requirement. For round ducting that is less than 48" in circumference, you can simply install the length of the roll and tape the seam. For example if you had a 24" circumference round duct, cut the roll in half and you could cover up to a 50' run in one piece. When installing around square or rectangular ducting we will install in 4' increments. For example, if the ducting is 24" wide and 10" tall we would take the roll and cut a 68" piece, 24" + 10" + 24" + 10" . This is enough to wrap a 4' section of the ducting. To estimate how many rolls of insulation that would be needed, for this example, we would start with the length of the roll. 50' x 12" = 600" divide that by the length of piece of insulation, 600" / 68" = 8.8 pieces. Each piece covers 4' of lineal ducting, 4' x 8.8 pieces = 35.2 linear feet. Therefore this one roll of insulation will cover just over 35' of linear ducting.
